Our Mission & Philosophy

Our mission is to instill in every child self-confidence, a sense of curiosity, and joy for learning in order to equip them with the skills they need for lifelong success.

BOSMMA helps create a strong, mutually supportive partnership with parents, families, the community, and the teachers as facilitators for the purpose of maximizing every child’s academic and personal growth; to encourage the development of the whole child by providing a comprehensive Montessori education which cultivates foundational skills and independent thought as well as awareness of one’s environment; empathy for others; social ease and confidence; to consider the emotional, intellectual, physical, social and spiritual development of the total child by offering the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (an Orthodox Christian Montessori Church School program) and addressing the uniqueness of each one in a nurturing, emotionally secure and academically excellent environment; to help our students to grow up to be successful global citizens.

“To have learned something for the child is only a point of departure. when he has learned the meaning of an exercise, the he begins to enjoy repeating it, and he does repeat it an infinite number of times, with the most evident satisfaction”

Maria Montessori

Our program is based on the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952), world famous educator, physician, and scientist who developed a method of education through research and experiences in Italy at the turn of the 20th century. Montessori discovered that individual children would progress at their own pace if placed in an enriched environment that nurtured human development. Our school environment is thoughtfully created by the teachers in order to allow the child to follow their interests and to develop skills and concepts using concrete, manipulative materials created by Dr. Montessori.

Our approach of self-directed yet guided development is designed to help the child grow in self-confidence, independence, and self-discipline. It fosters respect for others and promotes a joy of learning.

Children are natural learners. They are like sponges absorbing the world around them in a way quite different from adults. They absorb knowledge giving them energy to teach themselves in the Montessori environment guided by the teacher.  Education then is a process, which naturally develops in the human being, not something the teacher does! Children are gifted by nature to exercise the skills they see practiced around them.
